Craniosacral Therapy
Cranio (Head) + Sacral (Sacrum - tail bone)
Cranio (Head) + Sacral (Sacrum - tail bone)
undred years ago, osteopath Dr. William Sutherland discovered they are not fused or static, but full of undulating, beautiful movement, like tides against shore.
Dr. Sutherland proved his remarkable theory of motion - that life and health, in fact, were expressing themselves in every tissue - specifically the spinal fluid, central nervous system and surrounding membranes. Life expresses itself as motion, and every one of our tissues breathes and heaves in an organized rhythm. Sutherland undertook years of research eventually calling these rhythms the "Breath of Life."
Throughout our dynamic every-day living and choices we make with our bodies, tissues and posture develop patterns as we react and respond to stresses and/or traumas. We are designed to take in experiences, use what we need, and eliminate what we no longer need... Stress and trauma can inhibit that process, however, causing dis-ease and illness. When the stress and trauma remain held and protected in our tissues in overwhelm, eventually an area (or the whole body) locks into inertia. (Emotional and physical injuries, traumas and illnesses all represent as inertia -"stuckness"- non-movement in the tissues.) Where blood and breath are not flowing, life is not expressing health, inhibiting us from the flowing, natural rhythmical movements of the Breath of Life all the way down to the cellular level. Craniosacral Therapy supports the body-mind to dissolve the inertia or stuckness, stimulating the body's own self-healing and self-regulating abilities. When the body can fully be in breath, the body can fully be in health.
When we become still and in full-trust of our environment, we can truly release and unwind the patterns of inertia that bind us into our pain, whether that be from postural habits or emotional pain, grief or injury.
The potent source of true healing is within each of us.
I love sharing Craniosacral therapy. Please feel free to contact me if you have additional questions, or wonder if this therapy could be of benefit to you.
